As the North American colonies grew, so did the demand for labor. One type of unfree laborers in the colonies was indentured servants, men and women who signed a legal contract called an indenture that bound them to work for a certain individual for a certain number of years, in exchange for which they received room, board, and some type of education or training. During their indenture, the servant was legally subject to the rule of their master; although there were laws to protect servants, working conditions in actuality varied widely. No matter how oppressive their master, however, at the end of their indenture period, the individual servant was free to leave (usually with a set of supplies and a sum of money adequate for starting out on his or her own way in the world).

Below are two documents, each a first-hand account of life from an indentured servant. Richard Frethorne was an indentured servant in the Virginia colony in the 1620s. Elizabeth Ashbridge became an indentured servant in New York in the 1730s.

You must read both documents carefully, then write an essay that addresses the following questions for each document:

Who is the servant? Consider their age, race, sex, economic status, religion, nationality, etc.
Why did this person become an indentured servant?
What was their experience as an indentured servant? Good? Bad? Indifferent?
Does their gender idetntity–male or female–change their experience in any way?

Your essay must be a minimum of 750 words. You must use at least two (2) direct quotes from each document in your essay. Essays should be well-written, free from grammatical mistakes and typos, and properly cited.

THIS PAPER SHOULD BE WRITTEN IN BULLET POINTS FOR EACH SECTION TO ENSURE ALL PARTS OF THE SECTIONS ARE Essay

THIS PAPER SHOULD BE WRITTEN IN BULLET POINTS FOR EACH SECTION TO ENSURE ALL PARTS OF THE SECTIONS ARE ANSWERED.

The document you submit should be VERY carefully organized around the eight (8) sections listed in the assignment rubric. Use tools like headings, sub-headings, numbered lists, tables, or bullet points to demonstrate you would be prepared to use this document as a scriipt for a real sales call, if that were possible.

Don’t make any assumptions that I would have to “read between the lines” to understand what you are trying to do or accomplish with any of the sections of the Template.

Section 9 (Follow-Up) of the Sales Dialogue Template will be not be addressed in this assignment. Rather, we will ask you to consider some sales ethical dilemmas that you might encounter in working with this customer you have identified.

Section 1 – Prospect Information
This section allows you to demonstrate that you know as much as you can about the firm and the person you will be calling on for the first time. I want you to project about others in your prospect’s organization that could potentially have some role in the purchase decision the best you can too.

Section 2A – Customer Value Proposition -Product/Service
Here you need to describe your product or service very carefully and show why the prospect might have any interest in buying it.

Section 2B – Customer Value Proposition -Value Proposition Statement
A good Value Proposition Statement shows how the prospect’s business will be affected or improved by purchasing your product/service now.

Section 3 – The Sales Call Objective
The objective of the call must be put into terms that are very specific, measurable, achievable, relevant for this customer, and bound by a specific time.

Section 4 – Buying Motives and Needs
A good place to start would be to look textbook Exhibit 3.2 for the range of buyer motives/needs. Then, be sure to match your specific product/service benefits from our FAB discussion in Module 7 to each buyer need. You will likely find that some benefits will support more than one buyer need. It may be easiest to put this together in a table so it is clear how you are matching benefits with needs.

Section 5 – Your Primary Competitor
In most industries, your firm will face competition from a variety of sources. Often, however, one competitor is a particularly strong adversary in our product/service niche. Your task is to examine the industry your firm is working in and find that competitor that might be your biggest challenger in the marketplace. List 2-4 strengths and 2-4 weaknesses for the firm and provide a brief discussion of how you think this competitor will impact how you will sell your product/service into your chosen market.

Section 6 – Beginning the Sales Dialogue/Needs Assessment
This is a critical portion of the assignment. You must show the specific sequence of questions (SPIN or ADAPT) that you would ask. For each question you should also make a point to say “why” you think that question is needed and speculate “what” you think your prospect would likely provide as an answer.

Section 7 – Anticipated Objections and Planned Responses
Anticipate at least three (3) objections that you would expect to encounter, what technique you would employ to respond to the objection, and why you think that technique is appropriate for the specific objection.

Section 8 – Earning Commitment/Closing
Select two (2) specific closing techniques that you would use, write a scriipt for how that closing technique would sound when executed, and present at least one trial close statement that would be used prior to the close you have selected. Also, list at least three (3) “buying signals” that your prospect would give to show you that it is time to execute your closing.

Section 9 – Sales Ethical Concerns
While not all professional sales interactions are faced with ethical dilemmas, it is important (as we saw in Module 2) to be prepared to address them should they arise. Please speculate what sort of ethical issues (at least two) could possibly arise as you conduct your first sales interview with the customer you have identified for this assignment. In addition, suggest how you would respond to the ethical issues that arise.

Discussion #6: Shakespeare

For this week’s discussion, read the following and write a ~300 word response
Use the questions below as guides. Feel free to add your own thoughts and questions as well.
Then, respond to two group members (~75 words)
William Shakespeare, “Sonnet 130”
Joyelle McSweeney, “Toxic Sonnets” excerpt from Toxicon and Arachne (please focus on this one!)
General Instructions:1. Write your response
Write your response to the texts and podcast using the questions below as guides.
You do not need to answer all the questions, and you are welcome to respond using your own questions and observations.
It’s okay if you are totally confused by a text or feel like you don’t “get it”–use the guiding questions and ask questions of your own about the things that confuse you!Share what your experience of the text was, even if you’re not sure if others experienced it that way.
Remember that you don’t have to identify as/with something to write about its values and ideas, make connections, and consider elements of form.
Choose a brief part of the text that intrigues you and write about that specific section or scene.

2. Respond to 2 other student posts
Once you have posted your response, read over the responses of those in your group and respond to two other student posts.
Your response should be at least 75 words
Background info and guiding questions:I’ve included Shakespeare as a classic example of a sonnet that some of you may have seen before. Don’t worry about analyzing it too much, but do pay attention to its form–I’ve included it to help us build towards McSweeney’s sonnets.
First, read “Sonnet 130,” in which Shakespeare uses some less-than-ideal images and comparisons to describe his lover.Take a few minutes to explore the following. You don’t need to write these down as part of your response, but do this to get familiar with the classic sonnet form.
How many lines does it have?
How does Shakespeare use rhyme in this poem? (Think about which lines rhyme with each other)
How many syllables, or sound counts, are there per line?
What kind of imagery is used?
Now, read Joyelle McSweeney’s “Toxic Sonnets” section from her book Toxicon and Arachne, as well as the brief essay excerpts I’ve included as an intro to the reading.
The essay excerpts are meant to give you some background understanding on why Joyelle McSweeney dedicated these sonnets to John Keats, one of the most famous English poets of the Romantic period (here’s a sonnet that he wrote (Links to an external site.)). They should also give you some insight into what McSweeney is doing in her dense, overloaded, overwhelming sonnets, and what is going on behind the scenes of her writing.
What are your first impressions? How do these sonnets, published in 2020, feel different from the Shakespeare one written in the 16th century?

What kinds of images are being used? What kind of diction? What are some examples that stand out to you?
Rather than trying to figure out what McSweeney’s sonnets are “about,” what kind of mood do you feel as you read them? What associations do you make while reading?
What feelings and sensations emerge from the imagery and diction for you?

How do you understand the “necropastoral”? Be sure to read the supplementary text before the sonnets. How does it show up in her sonnets? Give an example of an image that you see as necropastoral.

Provide a general introduction, background, and purpose of the paper, with your thesis resting on the idea of using statistical analysis to achieve better business decision and increase profitability and business activities. Also, include a discussion of the real estate industry and the impacts that influence the health, viability, and success of the real estate marketplace; particularly in the Northeastern region of the U.S.
State why the dependent variable has been chosen for analysis. Then make a general statement about the model you will be employing, for example:

“The dependent variable _______ is determined by variables ________, ________, ________, and __________.”

Identify the primary independent variable and defend why it is important by stating:

“The most important independent variable in this analysis is ________ because _________.”

In your paragraphs, cite and discuss the research sources/references that support the thesis, i.e., the model you have chosen.

Write the general form of the regression model (less intercept and coefficients), with the variables named appropriately so the reader can identify each variable at a glance:

Dep_Var = Ind_Var_1 Ind_Var_2 Ind_Var_3

For instance, a typical model would be written:

Price_of_Home = Square_Footage Number_Bedrooms Lot_Size.

Price_of_Home: brief definition of dependent variable
Square_Footage: brief definition of first/primary independent variable
Number_Bedrooms: brief definition of second independent variable
Lot_Size: brief definition of third independent variable

Define and defend all variables, including the dependent variable, in a single paragraph for each variable. Also, state the expectations for each independent variable. These paragraphs should be in numerical order, i.e., dependent variable, X1, then X2, etc. In each paragraph, the following should be addressed:

How is the variable defined in the data source?
Which unit of measurement is used?
For the independent variables: why do the independent variables determine the dependent variable?
What sign is expected for the independent variable’s coefficient, positive or negative? Why?

Data Descriiption: Describe the data and identify the data sources. From which general sources and from which specific tables are the data taken? Which year or years were the data collected. Are there any data limitations?
Presentation and Interpretation of Results. Write the regression (prediction) equation:

Dep_Var = Intercept c1 * Ind_Var_1 c2 * Ind_Var_2 c3 * Ind_Var_3

Identify and interpret the adjusted R2 (one paragraph). Define “adjusted R2,” what does the value of the adjusted R2 reveal about the model? If the adjusted R2 is low, how has the choice of independent variables created this result?
Identify and interpret the F-test (one paragraph). Using the p-value approach, is the null hypothesis for the F-test rejected or not rejected? Why or why not? Interpret the implications of these findings for the model.
Identify and interpret the t-tests for each of the coefficients (one separate paragraph for each variable, in numerical order): Are the signs of the coefficients as expected? If not, why not? For each of the coefficients, interpret the numerical value. Using the p-value approach, is the null hypothesis for the t-test rejected or not rejected for each coefficient? Why or why not? Interpret the implications of these findings for the variable. Identify the variable with the greatest significance.
Analyze multicollinearity of the independent variables (one paragraph); Generate the correlation matrix. Define multicollinearity. Are any of the independent variables highly correlated with each other? If so, identify the variables and explain why they are correlated. State the implications of multicollinearity (if found) for the model you have created for this analysis.
Other (not required): If any additional techniques for improving results are employed, discuss these at the end of the paper. As for grading, the inclusion of additional statistical methods will be rewarded appropriately.
Reference Page: Use the proper format to list the works cited and place the entire page in APA format 7th edition. Include at least 10 references from across the spectrum of possible reference sources (books, magazines, journals, periodicals, newspapers, videos, etc.)

Write a 1500-word essay (no more than 1750 words), on the topic and two cultural groups you have proposed and researched.

Include at least 7 internal citations within your essay (with at least one from each of your sources: your textbook and six outside sources), in support of your explanations. So this means:
Use your Perspectives textbook as ONE of your sources. This will be good for your anthropological concepts!
Use THREE outside sources for the ’historically marginalized group’ within the U.S.

Use THREE outside sources for the ’historically marginalized group’ outside the U.S.

Important: When included, quotations should be 10 words or less.
The essay assignment should include:

1. Introduction: In your opening paragraph, introduce the topic and the two cultures you are studying. Include in-text citations for your sources.

a. Introduce the topic.

b. State the names and geographic locations of the two cultural groups you are studying for your cross-cultural analysis.

c. Explain why you chose the topic and the cultural groups.

d. Introduce anthropological concepts.

2. Exploration of the cultures and topic: This is the heart of your essay! It is a detailed discussion of the specific topic you have chosen, in each of the cultures in your research project. Support and document your findings with citations from your sources. Address the following areas in your essay, to share what you have learned during your research.

a. Exploration of the cultures and the topic.

1. Introduce the first culture you have studied for this assignment, and explain how they incorporate aspects of the topic you are studying into their lifeways.

2. Introduce the second culture you are studying, and explain how they incorporate aspects of the topic you are studying into their lifeways.

b. Application of anthropological concepts — these should be woven into your information on each of the cultures (not “tacked on” at the end).

Explain and apply the anthropological concepts you have chosen, and use them to help define and analyze how your topic is incorporated into the lifeways of each culture. For example, how does an understanding of gender shed light on the ways people create and incorporate coming of age ceremonies in these cultures? Be sure to use an in-text citation from your textbook for each concept.

c. Cross-cultural analysis.

Compare AND contrast the way specific aspects of the topic are incorporated in each culture. For example, each group may have a coming of age ritual, but the rituals will be specific to each culture! Be sure to explain one similarity AND one difference between the two cultures.

3. Conclusion: Reflect on your research, and think about future research!

a. Explain one way this cross-cultural analysis has deepened your appreciation for the uniqueness of each culture or the topic in your essay.

b. Discuss the cultural and anthropological relevance of your research.

c. Describe one new area you would like to explore in your cross-cultural analysis. Explain how that would broaden your knowledge of the cutures or their lifeways.

4. Bibliography or References List at the end of the essay.

types of radiation and the method to detect and measure them.

1. Give a basic descriiption of the concept/process. Please include at least one figure/diagram/flowchart of your own design.

2. What is the purpose of the concept/process? What function/benefit can it provide?

4. Are there any key individuals identified in the original research that lead to the current accepted theories/model describing this concept/process?

5. Choose one research article (from after 2017) that focus on the concept/process. Explain the importance of results/analysis in each paper that led to a greater understanding of this concept/process. What important fact(s)/idea(s) did the paper/research reveal?

6. List all of your references in a Bibliography, using proper in-text citations throughout your answer.

People have seen consistent rates of inflation over the past several decades in healthcare. This inflation has been driven by increases in costs for health insurance, technology utilization, and demand for qualified providers and facilities. Consider the many areas in which the U.S. healthcare system has seen steady rises in costs. Imagine you are a financial manager for an organization that has seen significant cost increases in the past few years or decades in an area related to your organization (e.g., supplies, technology, outside services). Prepare an outline for a proposal on how to help reduce or minimize these costs.Use your text as a resource for this assignment plus one other resource from the library. Please cite your sources. The outline should include the following:

Curve-fitting Project – Linear Model (due at the end of Week 5)

Instructions

For this assignment, collect data exhibiting a relatively linear trend, find the line of best fit, plot the data and the line, interpret the slope, and use the linear equation to make a prediction. Also, find r2 (coefficient of determination) and r (correlation coefficient). Discuss your findings. Your topic may be that is related to sports, your work, a hobby, or something you find interesting. If you choose, you may use the suggestions described below.

A Linear Model Example and Technology Tips are provided in separate documents.

Tasks for Linear Regression Model (LR)

(LR-1) Describe your topic, provide your data, and cite your source. Collect at least 8 data points. Label appropriately. (Highly recommended: Post this information in the Linear Model Project discussion as well as in your completed project. Include a brief informative descriiption in the title of your posting. Each student must use different data.)

The idea with the discussion posting is two-fold: (1) To share your interesting project idea with your classmates, and (2) To give me a chance to give you a brief thumbs-up or thumbs-down about your proposed topic and data. Sometimes students get off on the wrong foot or misunderstand the intent of the project, and your posting provides an opportunity for some feedback. Remark: Students may choose similar topics, but must have different data sets. For example, several students may be interested in a particular Olympic sport, and that is fine, but they must collect different data, perhaps from different events or different gender.

(LR-2) Plot the points (x, y) to obtain a scatterplot. Use an appropriate scale on the horizontal and vertical axes and be sure to label carefully. Visually judge whether the data points exhibit a relatively linear trend. (If so, proceed. If not, try a different topic or data set.)

(LR-3) Find the line of best fit (regression line) and graph it on the scatterplot. State the equation of the line.

(LR-4) State the slope of the line of best fit. Carefully interpret the meaning of the slope in a sentence or two.

(LR-5) Find and state the value of r2, the coefficient of determination, and r, the correlation coefficient. Discuss your findings in a few sentences. Is r positive or negative? Why? Is a line a good curve to fit to this data? Why or why not? Is the linear relationship very strong, moderately strong, weak, or nonexistent?

(LR-6) Choose a value of interest and use the line of best fit to make an estimate or prediction. Show calculation work.

(LR-7) Write a brief narrative of a paragraph or two. Summarize your findings and be sure to mention any aspect of the linear model project (topic, data, scatterplot, line, r, or estimate, etc.) that you found particularly important or interesting.

You may submit all of your project in one document or a combination of documents, which may consist of word processing documents or spreadsheets or scanned handwritten work, provided it is clearly labeled where each task can be found. Be sure to include your name. Projects are graded on the basis of completeness, correctness, ease in locating all of the checklist items, and strength of the narrative portions.

Here are some possible topics:

Choose an Olympic sport — an event that interests you. Go to https://www.olympic.org/olympic-results and collect data for winners in the event for at least 8 Olympic games (dating back to at least 1980). (Example: Winning times in Men’s 400 m dash). Make a quick plot for yourself to “eyeball” whether the data points exhibit a relatively linear trend. (If so, proceed. If not, try a different event.) After you find the line of best fit, use your line to make a prediction for the next Olympics (2014 for a winter event, 2016 for a summer event ).
Choose a particular type of food. (Examples: Fish sandwich at fast-food chains, cheese pizza, breakfast cereal) For at least 8 brands, look up the fat content and the associated calorie total per serving. Make a quick plot for yourself to “eyeball” whether the data exhibit a relatively linear trend. (If so, proceed. If not, try a different type of food.) After you find the line of best fit, use your line to make a prediction corresponding to a fat amount not occurring in your data set.) Alternative: Look up carbohydrate content and associated calorie total per serving.
Choose a sport that particularly interests you and find two variables that may exhibit a linear relationship. For instance, for each team for a particular season in baseball, find the total runs scored and the number of wins. Creative things are original, effective, and have value. Because creative things are original, there is no “one right answer” or “one way” to be creative…. by definition. It is therefore impossible to provide a “rubric” for original creations.

That can be related to our lectures, our readings, our precedent studies, our handouts, our discussions, etc.Nonetheless, please proofread all text, make sure that you have a cover slide with your name, the title of your creativity project; the class information; Sac State, Dr. Sledge, Instructor; date; etc. You should reference at least two the creativity theories provided by the instructor: ( The Four Stages of the Creative Process Theory, The Four C Model of Creativity, The Investment Theory of Creativity, and The Wicked Problems Theory). You should include photographs of the final project and a few taken during development to illustrate process. A PDF saved from a PowerPoint should not have more than ten slides maximum, not counting the cover slide. Finally, strive to include at least three references at the end. If you are using your Precedent Project… then you have those references already. You may cite my 2021 dissertation:

Revelations and dances from Dancing in the Light- due by May 8

Please submit your observations after watching BOTH these videos and all 7 dances.

Note that Alvin Ailey’s Revelations is a suite of dances- all 11 songs are a part of the whole dance. More info here about this iconic, ground breaking work.

These are six works in Dancing in the Light from six more historic African-American choreographers:

Asadata Dafora

Talley Beatty

Donald McKayle

Pearl Primus

Kathrine Dunham

Bill T. Jones

Please write at least 2 paragraphs about these works. Did you see any similarities in them (not in the costumes, or music, but in the DANCE, in the movements)? Maybe you saw similar themes? What did these dances tell you about the African-American experience? What did these dances tell you about society, politics, the economy…. during this time? What did they shed light on?

Please compare at least 2 of these DANCES to Alvin Ailey’s dance. As always- write about anything you saw and about how you felt. I want to know if there is any way you can relate to these works or to the emotions portrayed. Can you compare them to other dance forms we’ve covered in this course?
Would you call them “protest” dances? Why or why not?

Please italicize titles of dances and always mention the choreographer! And the dancer (s) if you like- there are several solos.

Details:
We have all worked in a group or team at some point in our careers. A team is brought together to achieve a common goal. The team needs to have members who have complementary skills and who are committed to a common purpose to achieve performance goals. However, teams don’t move immediately toward performing, but instead evolve over time. There are five stages of group and team development:

Forming: Getting oriented and getting acquainted. High degree of uncertainty as members as they try to figure out who is in charge.
Storming: Personalities start to emerge, along with roles and conflicts within the group.
Norming: In the third stage conflicts are resolved, relationships developed, harmony and unity surfaces.
Performing: The members concentrate on solving problems and completing the assigned task.
Adjourning: Members prepare to disband. Some members may be reassigned, terminated from the group or the group is resolved.
1. Think about a time when you joined a new group—it could be at work, in a family setting or with a social group.
2. Which of the five stages was the most challenging for the group to work through, and why?
3. How might you have helped the group work through that stage differently based upon what you know now about the five stages of group and team development?
