The Cuban Revolution Of Fidel Castro And Che Guevara
The revolution began in 1952 when former Army Sergeant Fulgencio Batista seized power during a hotly contested election.” One such person was rising political star Fidel Castro, who would likely have won a seat in Congress had the 1952 elections taken place. Castro immediately began plotting Batista’s downfall. Many people in Cuba were disgusted by his power grab, preferring Cuba’s democracy, as flawed as it was. When it became apparent that he would lose, he seized power before the elections, which were canceled. “On the morning of July 26, 1953, Castro made his move. For the revolution to succeed, he needed weapons, and the attack was a fiasco almost from the start, that lasted a few hours.” 138 men attacked the compound at dawn, it was hoped that the element of surprise would make up for the rebels’ lack of numbers and arms. And a lot was capture and nineteen federal soldiers were killed. So all of the remaining ones took out their all of they’re anger on captured rebels. The Castros and surviving rebels were put on public trial. Fidel and Raul Castro escaped but were captured later. So after all of that Fidel, a trained lawyer, turned the tables on the Batista dictatorship by making the trial about the power grab. And basically, when his was arguing that as a loyal Cuban, he had taken up arms against the dictatorship because it was his civic duty. And he made a very long speech and the government belatedly tried to shut him up by claiming he was too ill to attend his own trial. (by Christopher Minster)
Order now
“Fidel Castro helped to lead the Cuban Revolution in overthrowing the existing government of Cuba in 1959. He was an ardent communist and was allied with the Soviet Union. This deeply concerned the United States as this gave communism and the Soviet Union a foothold in the Americas.” Than the CIA, or Central Intelligence Agency, was tasked with overthrowing Fidel Castro’s government in Cuba. After that there were many people that were exiles, who had fled the country when Fidel Castro had become leader. Well the CIA took the exiled and trained them to fight back and get they’re country back. So the planning of the invasion, the invasion was planned to occur at the city of Trinidad, but President Kennedy thought that they needed a more secluded place. The Bay of Pigs was chosen instead. The big idea was that planes would fly in first and destroy the air force. Than the invasion force of 1500 soldiers would land safely. They hoped that the Cuban people would join them in the rebelling against Castro. So the CIA tried to a big top secret, however, too many people knew and word got out. The Cubans knew the invasion was coming.(The Cold War Bay Of Pigs)
The Cuban’s allied themselves with the communist Soviet Union. This caused a lot of tension. “During The Cuban Missile Crisis, the leaders of The United States and The Soviet Union engaged in a tense, 13-day political and military standoff in October 1962 over the installation of nuclear-armed Soviet missiles on Cuba, just 90 miles from U.S. shores.(https://www.history.com/topics/cold-war/cuban-missile-crisis) Then a T.V. address on October 22, 1962, President John Kennedy (1917-63) notified Americans about the presence of the missiles, and explained his decision to enact a naval blockade around Cuba and made it clear the U.S. was prepared to use all of his military force if he need to. And the following news many people feared the world was on the brink of nuclear war.
